(NEW) Hanner Mukunga, Kenya

(NEW) Hanner Mukunga, Kenya

from £13.00

This is the first coffee we’ve sourced from Kenya this season, and we are excited to have it back for a second year. Mukunga Estate, located in Githunguri, Kiambu, sits at an altitude of 1850–1880 MASL and is owned by Hanner Wanjiku Mukunga, who is nearly 90 years old and continues to actively oversee her farm.

All of Hanner’s coffee is selectively handpicked and processed on her estate. Around 90% of the coffee trees on her farm are SL28, with the remaining 10% being Ruiru 11.

Some of you may remember that last season, her coffee came highly recommended by our friend Tash from Sucafina, who had the privilege of meeting Hanner in 2023. Last year, we were able to source the AB grade, and this year we’re delighted to offer the higher-quality AA grade.

In October 2024, Pravin was in Kenya attending a Coffee Fermentation Training Camp with Lucia Solis. Because Kiambu County is located just outside Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, Pravin was able to extend his trip by a couple of days and visit Mukunga Estate. He had the opportunity to meet Hanner and her farm manager at her home, walk through her coffee fields, and see her wet mill facilities.

It was an unforgettable experience to walk through her fields with her manager, Mr. Andrew, and hear firsthand about some of the challenges they face.
