(NEW) Kilimbi, Rwanda

(NEW) Kilimbi, Rwanda
This is a coffee I’m especially excited about. I first tasted it while attending the Fermentation Training Camp in Kenya last autumn, led by Lucia Solis. One of the participants, Eustache from Muraho Trading Company, brought it along to one of our cupping sessions and I really liked.
Kilimbi is the first washing station established by Muraho Trading Company, located in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District. Built in 2016, it’s uniquely accessible only by boat, with farmers crossing Lake Kivu to deliver their cherries. The station sits at 1600–1650 MASL and is ideally situated for producing exceptional coffees—washed, natural, and this honey-processed lot.
We were able to source this coffee through our friends at Raw Material, who we work with closely for our Colombian offerings and who also partner with Muraho in Rwanda.
The honey process at Kilimbi involves hand-sorting cherries, removing floaters and debris via pre-pulp flotation, pulping while retaining the sticky mucilage layer, and then drying the parchment on raised beds for up to 35 days. The result is a sweet, syrupy, and textured cup that we think you’ll love.
