(Exclusive) KiQwetu Coffee Estate • Kenya – Washed

from £13.50

This is our first Kenyan coffee this year, is a rare exclusive and it comes with quite a story.

In 2024 I attended a coffee fermentation training camp in Kenya led by Lucia Solis. On the course I met Jack Melly, a Kenyan coffee producer, and we became friends. It turns out Jack started the first certified organic coffee farm in Kenya—KiQwetu Coffee Estate in Kericho County, south of the Rift Valley.

I've wanted to source coffee from Jack ever since meeting him, and last month in September 2025 I finally made it out to visit.

Jack and his wife Frida hosted me few days and I got to spend time at his farm and see his operations first hand.

Jack has a background in contrrustion and the farm was actually an quarry he turned into an organic coffee farm.

The estate sits between 1400 and 1800 meters and grows SL28, Batian, and Ruiru 11 varietals.

It is the first Certified Organic coffee farm in Kenya .

While I was there, we also fermented some coffees together using techniques from Lucia's workshop—experimenting with yeast and bacteria. The hope is this will be the beginning of a longer working relationship with Jack and I will soon have some of this coffee too.

I came back to the UK with some of the latest crop coffees from his farm—both AA and AB grades. This is really a trial offering as I'm roasting and tasting these coffees for the first time, which is why you won't see tasting notes on the label yet. What makes this particularly interesting is that you can try the AA and AB side by side—two different grades from the same harvest, same farm, same processing. It's a good way to understand how Kenya's grading system affects the cup.

Because this is an exclusive Limited Run and I only have a small batch of this coffee it’s available in 2 × 125g bags or 2 × 250g bag options.

This is so as many people can try it as possible.

Feedback is also really appreciated as I can feed this back to Jack.

This coffee is a blend of the varietals on his farm - sorted by AA and AB.
